Welcome "Mateo"!

On February 7th, we gathered at the Main Library for the launch and inaugural ride of "Mateo", the Library Explorer. Lion dancing, cake and a ribbon cutting with Acting Librarian, James Moore, San Mateo Mayor Diane Pappan and Foundation President, Ann Girard filled out the celebration. The library's new electric van will bring library programs to patrons "beyond the library's walls". Look for Mateo at farmers markets, community centers and everywhere in San Mateo! Thank you to our wonderful donors who made Mateo possible.

San Mateo loves its libraries! They enrich the lives of everyone in San Mateo regardless of age or economic circumstances. The San Mateo Public Library Foundation believes in the power of public libraries to change lives. Your contribution helps bridge the gap between what City funding provides and what the public needs from a 21st century institution. This support expands library services in significant ways, allowing the library to:

  • Fuel Technology Access and Innovation by providing public access computers, printers and scanners. The Library also now offers a laptop and mobile wifi lending program to patrons
  • Expand Outreach to the Community through high impact education and literacy programs that reach early learners, school age children, teens & adults.
  • Ensure Robust Collections of books and online collections. Check out the Library's free online collection. Impressive!!
  • Free Public Programs to the community. Last year, the Library hosted over 1,100 free programs for the community. Music, Art, Culture & More! The breadth of activities and speakers at the library is extraordinary.
